Pre-Registration Not Necessary
The 2025 Apple Butter Festival Quilt Show will be open to the public:
Oct. 2 – 2:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 3 – 1:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 4 – 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
The display will be located at the Salem Armory, 2265 W. Main St., Salem, W. Va.
Quilt entries will be received at the Salem Armory on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Entries will be judged Wednesday, October 1st. (Closed to the Public)
Quilts need to be picked up from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 4th.
All entries should have a hanging sleeve. Sleeves can be made by cutting a strip of fabric 8 ½ inches wide and equal to the width of you quilt. Sew the raw edges together to make a tube. Hand sew to the top of the back of the quilt. Leave ends open to allow a pole to run thru to hang the quilt for display.
Each category will be judged and a first, second, and third place ribbon will be awarded.
Furthermore, there will be a ribbon awarded by the judge for Best of Show.
There will also be a blue ribbon awarded for the following:
People’s Choice
Senior King and Queen’s Choice
Apple Butter Festival Queen’s Choice
Apple Butter Festival Chairman’s Choice
Mayor’s Choice
***If your quilt has received a ribbon in a previous Apple Butter Festival Quilt Show, it cannot be resubmitted in a subsequent Apple Butter Festival Quilt Show.
Money for the cash prizes for the judged categories has been raised by Oma’s Hobby Hideaway and the Millennium Quilt Guild. The People’s Choice cash award was donated by A & J Sewing Studio located in Morgantown, WV.
Judging will be done by Mary Zesiger of Chandlersville, OH. Mary received her judging certification from the National Quilting Association in 2006.
Antique quilts are welcome to be submitted for display with a short description of who made the quilt and the best estimate of when it was made. These quilts are very interesting and beautiful, but very difficult to judge because of changing tools and techniques. They will not be judged but might be chosen for a specialty ribbon (for example, Mayor’s Choice)
